It’s a typical spring day. In the low 60’s, winds from the South East but turbulent. Perfect for a day to go to SS. I wore double arms, knees, thick base layer, head cap and newspaper in the jersey. The legs felt ok to start. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I had matches to burn after reaching the top. I took a breather on the flat segment and then finished the climb. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recover. I let traffic by and headed down the mountain. There was a wind condition, but it was moderate. I think I reached 40 MPH, but it was safe. The trek through the farmlands went quick. I had a tailwind for a couple miles or so. Then it turned. After reaching the front entrance, I took a few moments to stretch on the bike. Then I made my way around the backside. I put in a good sprint and reached 40+ MPH on the descent. I stopped at the local park to take a quick bio and then got back on the road. I reached the tunnel in about 1:03 hours. So, not so bad time till that point. I stopped at the local mini mart to mix a powder drink. Then I got back on the road. The wind was somewhat turbulent, but the return was mostly quick. The last climb went well. I was doing moderate tempo most of the time, no heroics. After reaching the summit, I pulled over to feed. I fed a Clif Bar and some water. From there, I made my way to OTR. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation, so I had to let the cars by before turning onto OTR. The OTR descent was enjoyable. I pushed over Mariposa and then the grind to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I was in the zone most of the time and I had stuff to think about. No gremlins to mention. Balance and for was good. Ailments were minimal. My right knee was a bit sore for the past day or two, but it was ok on the ride. My left lower back was also hinting on soreness before the ride started, but it didn't escalate nor did it detract to much. I was careful not to overexert it. Nutrition was good. I had a big bowl of oatmeal, half a banana and grapes before departing. I fed a Clif Bar with water during the ride. Gear worked flawlessly. Although, for some reason the Di2 was shifting in sync mode. It was shifting in and out of the chain rings depending on the gear I was in the rear cassette. No clue why it was enabled. Overall, I prefer manual than this mode. I will have to see how to disable it for the next ride. Other notes, I saw one cyclist in SS and a runner.
