It's windy today. In the 60's. At lease the wind was going the right way. I wore arm and knee warmers. I was about to take the knee warmers off before the start, but decided to keep them on. I made the right decision. The legs felt average. I was fighting the wind, so that made things feel worse than they were. I made it to the summit of OTR in just under 23 minutes. So, an average ascent. Banducci was tough. I was red-lining it over the top. Letting traffic through. The remainder wasn't as bad. But I was fighting the wind. I pulled over at the summit and took a speed reading on the smartphone. I got super good reception there, today. About 34-ish (up) and over 10 (down). I let some traffic by and then headed downhill. The wind made it somewhat turbulent, so I was on high alert. I practiced my tuck. I don't think I reached 40 MPH. But was very close. I pulled over at the base to check the battery charge on the GoPro. It was at about 49%. I calculated that I could make my way to SS and back on the farmlands, before having to swap out batteries. I guessed right. The trek to SS was more or less, what I anticipated. Into the headwind, grinding it out. I made my way around the backside of SS, then the descent. It felt good, doing my tuck. I reached the tunnel, but forgot to check the GPS. I think it was around 1:02 or 1:03 hours, at best. I realized I wasn't on good time, so no point in pushing the pace. After zipping through SS, I headed back. Not much to tell, other than having to swap out the GoPro battery, as I predicted. I was hoping for a better tail-wind. But it was turbulent. I reached Boss Hogs In about 1:24 hours, plus or minus. I was eager to get the last climb in. The tailwind helped. I was over the top before I knew it. In the red, over the top, though. The false flats were recovery. In the meantime, as I was doing my ride, I was keeping track of my GPS virtual partner, set to 15 MPH average. I passed him somewhere near the last climb. I reached Route 202, let traffic by and made my way to OTR. From there it was mostly fun and games. The wind was no fun today, I was just happy that the tough part was over. Concentration was good, all things considered. Balance and form was good. The saddle height is working well. I will likely adjust it, soon. Ailments, some knee soreness, that never escalated. The quads were sore on the last 1/4 of the ride. Gear worked well. No issues there. Nutrition was spot on. I had most of my Gatorade, and some water. No hunger pains. Other notes, I saw two cyclists today.
