Excellent day for a bike ride. They predicted upper 80's today. So, I got up early and departed around 9:30 AM. Winds were from the North West. The legs felt pretty good from the start. I made it to the summit of OTR in good average time. Somewhere on that point of the ride, I set my virtual partner to 15.5 MPH. The Banducci wall was partial traffic mitigation. I tried not to red-line it over the top. I was keeping track of time while making my way to the summit. My calculations were pretty much spot on. I took a few moments rest at the summit. I was gapped by my virtual partner by about 8 minutes, at this point. I checked my smartphone's signal. I think it had 4 or 5 bars. No speed readings, today. The descent was fun. Reaching over 40 MPH, in the tuck. Getting out to SS was fast. The wind wasn't strong. I was averaging about 18 MPH, or so. I made my way around the backside of SS, and then down into town. I reached the tunnel in under 1 hour. The trek through town was fast. I cyclist was near the top of the climb as I was descending. I was wondering where I would be when I cross paths with him again. I was close in my approximation. In the last 500 yards or so, from the exit of SS. The trek through the farm-land went fast. I was doing the numbers in my mind. If I would be at Boss Hogs, before 1:20 hours. I made it there at about 1:19. So, I didn't give up any time. At this point, I was ahead of my virtual partner. I made my way to the last climb and kept the momentum going. I forgot to check the GoPro battery charge. About 3/4's into the climb, it ran out of batteries, so I pulled over to swap in a fresh battery. From there it was to the summit. No digs, just steady tempo. The false flat was a recovery zone. I made it to Route 202. There was minimal traffic mitigation. From there it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was good. I was in the zone, most of the time. Ailments, I think I had some soreness in my left leg, it never escalated. And, of course, I had some quad soreness, from fatigue. Balance and form was good. I think I want to raise the saddle by about 1/2 inch or so. Gear worked flawless. I got the new saddle bag and it worked like a charm. I can now attach my rear light onto it. So, no need for a bracket mount. Nutrition was spot on. No hunger pains, I had plenty of fluids. I went through about 3/4 of my Gatorade and some water. Other notes, I saw about 6 cyclists today.
