I got lucky today. I departed later than I planned. Fortunately the weather was cooperative. I new exactly what I had in store for this ride. Firstly, I had to make the decision of doing Keene after doing Tour de Teh (SS,R). That was to be decided late in the ride. I went on the assumption that I would do the Keene n Back ride. I took 2 extra bottles and put them in the mail locker. I also put an extra power bar and batteries for my Gopro camera. I put the bottles in a container that barely fit in the locker. The idea being that the container would keep the fluids from spilling. It took me a minute or two to put everything in there, shortly after, I started the ride. I felt pretty good from the start, but I kept the pace modest. Always thinking about what I had in store for the remainder of the ride. I made it to the top of Banducci in average time. Pretty much where I wanted to be. It was fun and games till I reached the farm-lands. I hit 42+ MPH on the descent. I continued to the top of SS, no heroics over the summit. I reached the tunnel in around 1:22ish. Being that the wind was from the North-West, I had a tailwind on the way back. I kept the pace at a comfortable tempo all the way to the summit of CVR. I got a good reprieve on the false flats and down Route 202. When I reached Route 202, I decided that I wanted to continue with the Keene n Back ride. I made my way to the mail locker and was able to swap out my bottles and batteries. It took a couple of minutes. After that, I commenced the short climb to the summit of W.T.R. When I reached the summit, I decided to feed. I ate 1 power bar. It was perfect, not too much and not too little. Enough to keep the stomach from feeling empty. Add that to the sport drinks, I was golden. I cruised the downhill, stretched out a bit. Recovered till I reached the base of Keene. Once I reached the bottom, I changed the camera mode and started the climb. I felt pretty good from the start. My legs were already warmed up from the miles I had put it. I kept the tempo nice and steady, always paying attention to over exhaustion, fatigue and ailments. I think I judged it just right. I made a dig over the top of the Loop and put it into cruise control for the rest. I stopped for 1 or 2 minutes at the summit, then finished the ride. Overall, I think the ride was a success. Ailments consisted of saddle soreness, some right hand numbness and callouses, some minor soreness in the right knee, a hint of lower back soreness after nearing the summit of the Keene climb. Concentration was good for the most part. I had to coach myself on some occasions. Balance and form was good. I stayed on top of the pedals. I felt good while out of the saddle. Gear worked flawless. No issues there. Other notes, I didn't see any other cyclists.
