Today's ride was difficult in many respects. The weather was cold. In the low 30's, winds from the North West. I wore the entire kit, with 2 base layers (including long sleeve jersey). I felt somewhat sluggish at the start, but I got better as the ride went on. I was sufficiently warmed up after reaching route 202. It snowed the past couple of days, but the roads were passable and safe. I put in good tempo over the Banducci wall as there was less shoulder room and cars from the rear. After that, I recovered and did more good tempo to the summit. I didn't care about time today. I wanted to get a solid ride in while I had the chance. The downhill was cautious. I made it down safe with no difficulties. The trek to SS was just that. The usual straight road through the farm lands. I stopped on a few occasions to refit my leg warmers. After reaching SS, I took a breather for a couple minutes and enjoyed the downhill. I then departed from SS and commenced the return trip. I was able to hold around 17 to 18 mph to Pelliser. After that, it was just moderate tempo, no heroics. I reached the last climb intact and was able to hold good tempo for the duration of the climb. I kept my momentum over the last kicker. Going through the false flats was mostly recovery, but I didn't waste any time. I stretched a bit as I wen ton. After that, it was making the safe trek through Route 202, and negotiating traffic. OTR on the return was extra cold as per the speed I was maintaining. I made a slight kick over Mariposa and cruised the remaining miles back home. Concentration was good, not great, but no serious lapses. Minimal gremlins. Ailments were next to none. I had some inner thigh pains on my right leg before departing. It was apparent now and again through out the ride, nothing to detract from the pace. Balance and form was good considering I was wearing full gear and riding in freezing weather. Gear is working well, no issues there. Other notes, I was surprised to see another cyclist. Just was I reached the base of the Banducci climb, there was another cyclist on his way down.
