The weather is great! Nice and cool. Mild winds from the North West. Perfect for Keene. I decided to bring my jacket. I think it was a good choice. I didn’t bother checking the time at the top of the descent. It was likely in good average time. I cruised the downhill. Today was a bit of a test to see how the knees would behave. No digs on the risers. I just kept my momentum going, mostly out of the saddle. I reached the base of the climb in about 29 minutes or so. I checked the GoPro battery. It had about 71% battery life remaining. Shortly after, I headed back up the mountain. The legs felt good from the start. I was able to ease into a sustainable tempo. I was having to decide whether to keep my jacket on, or take it off. I unzipped it and my jersey. It created a pocket of air, keeping me cool inside. So, I decided to keep it on. As I was approaching the Caesar Chavez Center, there was a vehicle from behind honking his horn (in a somewhat polite manner). He pulled up to me and exclaimed that I almost got myself “killed”. I guess he didn’t see me from the distance. I wasn’t sure if he was threatening me or giving me a warning. Probably the latter. I haven’t had a rude remark like that from a motorist in a while. Somewhat of a wakeup call. I was thinking there should be “Cyclists on Road” sign. Will have to suggest that to the county. Probably should have another for animal crossing. Nevertheless, I gathered my composure and continued. The ride went fast. The knees felt good. The legs felt good. Very nice cool clean air. I had a slight tailwind too. I was always paying attention to the body signs. It was pretty much in the green. I reached the summit, didn’t bother to check my time. No redlining it over the top. Concentration was good. I had few things to think about. Balance and form were good. Gear worked perfect. Ailments, still hints of knee soreness. Minimal at that. I was careful not to put too much pressure while getting out of the saddle. It took a some practice. Nutrition was good. No signs of hunger. I had about half my Gatorade, no water. Other notes, no other cyclists or tourists at the Loop Monument.
