Well, today was one of those days that I didn't feel like doing the planned ride. For a few reasons. First, my legs felt heavy when I got up in the morning. Second, after my morning nap, my stomach was killing me. I was in and out of the bathroom for about 30 minutes. Fortunately, the cramps subsided and I was feeling better, including my legs. So, I decided to get out and do the ride. Another issue I had to contend with was the weather. They predicted rain today, but the skies looked clear, so I decided to go for it. Turns out that there were light sprinkles here and there. Nothing to detract from the comfort of the ride. The temperature was around mide 60's. Winds from the North West, but turbulent. It reversed directions on some parts of the ride. I wore the usual kit with arm warmers. I felt good from the start. I made my way to OTR in good time. I removed my arm warmers after reaching Route 202. I was able to climb Banducci in good tempo. Slight push over the top. The false flat gave me some time to recover and I climbed the remainder in good tempo. I stopped at the summit for a minute or two, to recover and let the traffic through. The descent was fun and games, I hit 42+ MPH. The trek to SS was mostly moderate with some flurries of good tempo here and there. After reaching the brief climb to the back entrance of SS, I reduced the tempo and kept it well within my tolerance. I stopped to take some photos of the wild flowers, this give me time to recover and continued shortly after. The descent was fun. There were 2 vehicles ahead of me. I caught up to them on the descent. I reached the tunnel in around 57ish minutes. I cruised it through SS until I reached Banducci. I was doing between moderate to good tempo to Pelisser. From there it was steady tempo. No digs. Somewhere around this point of the ride, my right calf started to exhibit signs of cramping. I was having to reduce my tempo, stretch in and out of the saddle, even clicking out of the pedal to shake the muscles. When I reached the CVR climb, I put it into moderate tempo, pushing good tempo over the steeper sections. No digs over the summit. The false flat provided some time to recover. At this point, my right calf soreness had subsided. The wind changed into a headwind at this point. Such was the case all the way back to WTR. After the descent down OTR, I pushed over Mariposa and made my way back from there. Concentration was good for the most part. Some lapses here and there. There were some gremlins and what I now call peckers on the return trip. I was able to survive the modest deluge. Ailments consisted of right calf soreness. My lower back felt good today, minimal soreness. Some soreness in the left hip. Stretching on the bike, clicking out to relieve the muscles and reducing the tempo kept them in check. Balance and form felt good. Better than the previous ride. Gear is working well. No mishaps. Other notes, I saw 4 other cyclists today.
