Today's weather was cool, with gusty winds from the North West. I wore the standard kit with 1 base layer. I decided to do a one and a half ride. I felt average going out the door. I took it easy on OTR. Making it to Route 202 in average time. I was sufficiently warmed up by that time. I began the trek to Willow Springs in moderate to good tempo over the summit. The outbound was mostly moderate tempo, some acceleration here and there. I was getting out of the saddle when needed, stretching and such. On the return leg, I did mostly moderate tempo. There was a strong headwind, so I decided not to burn too many matches. Climbing Banducci was slightly higher tempo. Going over the wall, I had to push it just a bit as there was traffic lined up behind me. I recovered on the false flat and did mostly good tempo to the summit. I took a 1 minute break and then headed down the mountain. It was enjoyable, some gusts of wind to contend with, but otherwise pleasant. After reaching Pelisser, I kept the tempo moderate, some higher tempo here and there. Increasing the tempo as I approached Boss Hogs. From there, I brought the tempo back and saved the rest of my matches for the last climb. I was able to hold good tempo the whole way up the ascent. I put in a good dig over the top. The false flat was fun, as I had a nice tailwind at that point. I was able to stretch and mitigate the soreness. From there, I made my way back to OTR, safe and sound. Reaching 37MPH before the left hander. Fun stuff! It was fun and games to the bottom of OTR. Pushing it over Mariposa. The remainder was done by keeping the tempo moderate. Concentration was good for the majority of the ride. I did experience some gremlins on Highline as I was making my way back. It wasn't bad, but discouraging nonetheless. Ailments consisted of right hand numbness, lower back soreness and I had some signs of mild cramping on my right upper calf. None of which escalated, but the cramping probably would have gotten worse had I continued without taking a sizable break. Balance and form was the lesser of things. I don't know what it was, but I just didn't get that sense of having both legs square on the pedals. Perhaps it was the weather, wind, temperature change, etc? Gear is working well. No issues there. Other notes, no other cyclists to be seen. There were some horses that I saw on the way out on Highline. I was going to stop on the return to give them a little pat, but they were gone by the time I got back.
