Today's weather was on the windy side. Strong winds from the South. I felt average going out the door. Making my way to the top of the descent in no time. I reached the base of Keene in good time, as I had a tailwind nearly the entire way down. I reached 43+ MPH at one point. After reaching the base, I knew I was in for a difficult ascent, with respect to the (head) wind conditions. I began with modest tempo, letting my body ease into a comfortable rythm. I was saving my matches for the steep parts. For the most part I did moderate tempo. Bumping to good, only when the gradient and wind kicked. My body responded well, but my right calf started to cramp just a bit. It was enough to have to adjust my tempo, and stretch as much as I could. I was trying to understand the nature of the cramp. It's unusual on this route. I guess, the obvious, is with regards to saddle height, fore-aft position and cleat positioning. Otherwise, adjusting to the warming temperature and hydration. Fortunately I made it to the summit without injury. Concentration was good. Few lapses. I was in the zone for the majority of the ride. Balance and form felt good, a bit misplaced in the right leg. Ailments consisted of right calf signs of cramping, some left quad soreness, mild lower back soreness. My left glute had a sharp pain that persisted for a while, from the beginning of the ride. It never escalated. Gear is working well. Other notes, no cyclists today. I ran in to a swarm of bees as I was making my way back up Weston. Fortunately no stings!
