So you know the icon of me with my bike that I use for these Telegram posts? That was taken at the end of a 114-mile day with 4,000' climb ~ my personal best.
Through a series of events lengthening the distance today, I stuck with it and rode from 7:30a until 4:15p, in solid rain every minute of it, gaining a new PR!
I was soaked through by 23 miles, didnāt realize I had 108 yet to go. I was pouring water out of my rain gloves regularly, every mile for a long way. I perfected it⦠bend at the wrist so it pours out, straight arm and up the sleeve, oooh thatās cold!
Iāve been troubleshooting why some of my electronics incl bike didnāt charge correctly lastļæ¼ night while some did, and I think Iāve found the offending piece of equipment. So I was already on my final spare bike battery when the truck first passed me this morning, and I asked if someone would loan me a battery. Later, when Dave & Dee came looking to pick me up, I asked for another battery instead because I wanted to finish. So Dee loaned me his other battery too. I thanked him and he said I havenāt gotten his bill yet. š
So in the end, we reached tomorrowās destination minus just 10 miles, so we are taking the day off tomorrow, staying in a church hostel. Oh my word, I canāt tell you how welcome that news was!! (They need a jumping up & down icon!) We have plans to go see someplace very special.
Because it was raining so hard, I kept my phone in a Ziploc baggie today, making it challenging enough to get the phone in & out and my gloves off & on that I didnāt take several pictures that I would have. that plus I was soaking my phone every time.
There was an enormous section today between Eureka and Cassoday where wild mustangs roam! They are fenced with a huge amt of pastureland, given hay in winter, and those leaving the hay are allowed no contact. I can see they are wild because I canāt even ride past on the road without them turning and running. And is that breathtaking!
I wish Sarah could have been here.
I will pull some photos from videos for tomorrowās post; also of me wringing out my socks this eveningš®. Tonight I need to go to bed. I did hit a wall today at about 110 miles. I felt dazed and was literally starting to doze off for several miles while riding. Didnāt know you could do that! I stopped for my last battery change, thankfully, and decided to eat and drink a bit and it perked me up amazingly. That was so strange and reminded me of Julieās admonition to fuel & hydrate long before symptoms.
I thought today about what is driving me. I actually felt like I was asked the question. Itās deep inside, an almost ferocious determination to complete a mission while I have this one sure shot.
I am strengthened by your partnership, I know I am.
Not sure how to thank you for that. š¤ā„ļø
Well rats! Guess what I just realized? Three of us are out on the town, two are fast asleep, and the Wi-Fi password is down there somewhere in the dark. That means I canāt load a single picture until morning, Iām sorry! There will have to be a day 29b en la maƱana. Sweet dreams to you! š„°terri
