Today's weather was less warm than the previous. In the mid 80's. Cooler winds from the North West. I wore the standard kit w/ 1 base layer. I felt average going out the door. Somewhat sluggish for the first 5 miles. I made it to the end of OTR in barely average time. I did moderate tempo up Highline. From there, it was mostly cruise control till Willow Springs. The return trip was mostly moderate tempo. The wind wasn't significant, so I felt like I was making up more ground, faster than usual. I was constantly looking into the horizon, thinking what lye ahead. When I reached the last kickers, I put it into the 28T and pushed it over the top. From there it was easy tempo with stretches. The Banducci wall started moderate and then putting it in to good tempo. I was in my 28T and 32T for the greater part of the climb. Once over the wall, I recovered on the false flat and stretched. The remainder of the climb was moderate to good tempo. I stopped for a couple minutes at the summit, refilled my main bottle. Shortly after, I headed down the mountain. Practicing my tuck position, I reached over 41MPH. After making the right hander on Pelliser, I put it into cruise control. Keeping the tempo around 18 MPH, +/- 5 MPH. After reaching the last climb of the day, I started with a fast tempo, then settled into good tempo for the majority of the climb. A modest push over the top. Once over the summit, I took a few minutes break and ate a powerbar. I had a hint of light headedness, so I thought the right thing to do was to stop for a few moments. From there, I did moderate tempo to Route 202. Once there, I soft pedaled half of the descent and let traffic by. OTR was mostly fun and games. I did a moderate push over Mariposa and headed back home from there. Concentration was probably the greater of things. I was in the zone for most of the ride. Ailments consisted of some lower back soreness, a hint of right hand numbness, and right calf signs of cramping. My right calf started to cramp as I was approaching the Banducci wall. I told myself to wait it out. I wanted to see what was going to happen. Was it going to escalate, remain constant, or go away? It lingered for a few minutes, went away, came back another time. Somewhere around the summit of Banducci and the last climb, it subsided to the point that it was negligible. Balance and form was the lesser of things. I felt like my right foot need to be heal out just a bit. I just didn't feel centered on the bike today. Gear is working well. No issues there. Other notes, I saw 2 other cyclists and a (pedestrian) guy with encouraging me while I was going up Banducci. Lots of dead rodentia on the road today.
