Today was cold, in the low 40's, winds from the South East. I decided to go to Keene today. I bought some new full finger gloves that I was happy to try for the first time. They worked great! I wore the standard kit + arms, knees, base layer, cap, face mask, shoe toe covers, 2 socks. I felt pretty good going out the door. I had a tailwind going out. I made it to the top of WTR in about 8 minutes. The downhill was cruise control, soft pedaling. Out of the saddle, minimal. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect for the return ascent. After turning around, I knew I was going to be ok, with manageable suffering. I stopped at the Chavez center to take my face mask off. From there, it was non-stop climbing. I kept the tempo nice and steady, HR in the 140ish range. I was focusing my effort on making it to the first dip past the Loop Monument. From there, I was able to ride at a comfortable pace, sheltered from the wind. I was counting the landmarks, checking time here and there. More of the same to the summit. My concentration was spot on. I had some things to think about and was enjoying the view. Balance and form felt good. Ailments are next to none. I noticed I developed some sort of sore under my right arm. Not sure what to make of it. I noticed it a few days ago. Will keep an eye on it over the next few weeks. Gear is working well. The new gloves feel good. Hardly a hint of cold got through. In fact, my hands were moist when I removed them at the end of the ride. Other notes, no other cyclists today.
