So, today was the day I've been planning for more than a week. I'm not ready for bigger rides, so I decided to head up Caliente, on the right most route, about 2.5 miles past the mini-cafe. I got things right, more or less. I did the morning checklist, headed out, and got to the start point on time. I decided to put on a head cap and a jacket. It was a bit colder than I anticipated. The bike felt heavy as a tank. I had all my electronics and an extra bottle. Probably added 10 pounds to the bike. I shoved off and got into my zone, as fast as I could. I pulled over a few times to adjust the saddle. I brought my new verizon smartphone. I was taking readings through out the course. The signal at the post office was the strongest I've recorded yet. About 56 down, 15-ish on the up. Super fast. I made it to the fork and took a reading. That's where the signal was out. From that point onward, the signal never came back. There was a wind advisory, in this area. I had a nice tail-wind on the way up. So nice. I was well within my limits. I was recognizing the land marks. I pulled over a few times to take photos of the scenery and wild-life. At about mile 7.5, I decided to pull over to feed, because I was getting sensations of hunger. I fed a Nature Valley trail mix bar. It was exactly what I needed. I thought I forgot my Accelerade bottle, so I brought two Gatorade bottles. They're very potent. I was having to dilute it with water, by drinking half and half. Suffice it to say, the hunger went away. I made my way to the mini cafe. I decided to head 2.5 miles up the road. I had a generous tailwind, and I knew the way back would be tough. I made it to the base of the steep climb. That's when I turned around. There were some cows there, so I pulled over to take photos and videos. From there, I headed back. I passed the mini cafe and kept going. I had enough provisions to last the remainder of the ride. The headwind was significant, until I got back into the mountains. I pulled over a few miles past the cafe. Took a bio, fed a Cliff Bar. I had the Nuts and Seeds bar, and it went down well. I got back on the road. I pulled over a few more times for photos and videos. The miles went quick. I was sufficiently sheltered from the wind. After making it back to the fork, I was feeling good in the morale. The quads were a bit sore. I got back to the car, and that was it. Concentration was good. As I read in a previous log entry, there were some gremlins on the way back. I did as best I could to put it out of my mind. Ailments, some quad soreness on the last half of the ride. Some right knee soreness, that dissipated as the ride progressed. Balance and form was good. I think I have to adjust the saddle a bit more. Gear worked great. The GoPro lasted the whole ride, using the battery bank. The smartphone was perfect. The signal did go out, but so was the case with my other smartphone. So, no surprise there. Nutrition was more or less, spot on. I pulled over to feed when I needed to. No hunger bonk signs. I ate 3 eggs with flower tortillas, in the morning. I didn't have anything after that, until the bike ride started. Other notes, I saw just one cyclist. He looked to be laboring a bit, as he was going into a strong headwind. Somewhat, saying to me, this is what you can expect.
