I've been having good luck with the weather lately. It was supposed to be in the 90's. When I got out, it was in the upper 70's with a cool breeze from the North-West. My legs felt fresh from the start. It didn't take much time to get warmed up. I forgot to start the GPS early in the ride. I think I missed about 1 minute of metrics, so no biggy. I knew what I had in store for me, so I was constantly thinking about S.S. on the way out Highline. Although, I kept the tempo moderate and tried not to slack off so much. The difficult part, was the return on Highline. Gentle cross-head winds. Nothing major. But I had to pace my self with a nice steady tempo. When I reached Banducci, I started the climb moderate and pushed it over the top. I recovered on the false flats and did no less than moderate tempo. I took a 1 minute break at the summit. From that point, it was fun and games on the downhill. I was able to get a good recovery on that stretch of road. I continued to feel good and was able to hold a good tempo going out to SS. I didn't push it too hard over the top. I kept my pace within my limits, no heroics. The downhill was fun. I think I hit 40MPH+. When I reached the exit of S.S., I started the return leg on Banducci in modest tempo. I waited till I reached Pelliser to up the tempo. I kept a good tempo going through the farm fields. I was a bit sore going into the last climb. I had to hold back and keep from compounding what was already hurting. When I reached the summit, I pushed it a bit over the top, again no heroics. I had about 3 more sips of fluids left in my bottles. I was slightly hungry. I ended up stopping under a shady spot and fed my power bar. My body was recovering at the same time. After that, I finished the ride as normal. Fun and games after reaching Route 202. Concentration was good for the most part. Some lapses and crazies here and there, but I kept my focus for the majority of the ride. Ailments consisted of some real minor saddle soreness, which is being mitigated and feels better than the previous weeks. Some pains in the right quad and left hip. I think the left hip was the worse of the two. Balance and form was average today. I think it could have been better. Gear is working well. I started the Gopro in video mode to see how long it would last with 2 batteries. I lasted about 2:30ish minutes with some charge remaining. The SD card had plenty of space remaining. Other notes, I saw at least 3 or 4 cyclists today. Looks like I'm going to see more as the days get closer to the GranFondo in September. While in S.S., I was looking around for utility crews. More specifically, guys installing fiber optics. Nothing new though. I only saw one AT&T truck at the exit/entrance of S.S. I got the Berry flavor Cytomax today. I'm eager to try it. I'm having lunch now, so after I'm done with my cup of O.J., I'll have a swig of this stuff.
Other notes, there were some minor mystery clicks on the bike today. I'll have to clean the drive-train soon.
