Today's weather was comfortable. In the low 80's, winds from the north west. I wore the standard kit and my new cycling shorts. My plan was to do Tour de Teh (R) and Keene n Back. When I got out the door, I noticed that my right knee was sore. I ended up taking it real easy all the way to Route 202. As I was hoping, the pain began to subside as the ride progressed. Now about the ride... I climbed the Banducci wall with caution. I was having to use my 32T to keep myself from over exerting. I took it easy over the flat lands and did more or less moderate tempo to the summit, maybe an increase in tempo to the summit. The downhill was fun and games. I think I reached about 41MPH. The wind wasn't too harsh, so I was able to make it to the farmlands without having to burn matches. I picked up the tempo across the farmlands. The CVR climb was more or less the same. No digs, but a solid tempo to the summit. The flat section was recovery time. From there, Route 202, OTR was also recovery time for the mind and body. After reaching WTR, I had to put into my mind that the most difficult part remains. I did moderate tempo to the summit. The descent was mostly soft pedaling and out of the saddle on the short risers. After making it to the base, I stopped for a second because I dropped a bottle and had to clean it. Just as quick turned around and commenced the climb. My legs were heavy, so I decided to give some time and see if they would come around. For the most part it did. At this point the heat settled in. Going uphill with a tailwind exasperated the heat. But helped give me a push. I saved my matches for this climb, I knew I was going to need them. After completing the loop area, I settled into a moderate tempo, and maybe slightly more to the summit. From the summit, I was relieved. I calculated my water supply wisely. I put an extra bottle on the forks. I was nearly out of fluids when I reached the summit. Suffice it to say, I wasn't dehydrated at any point of the ride. The last stretch down WTF was a welcome reprieve. Concentration was good today. I was in the zone for the most part. Ailments consisted of right knee pain going out the door, but didn't escalate, in fact it subsided to point that I went away. I had some left upper quad soreness. Sitting up and stretching helped. Balance and form felt good, not great. Gear is working well. The new shorts feel true to fit and I think they will suit me well. Other notes, I saw one or two cyclists and a runner. The roadwork on the Banducci basin is supposed to be a "shoulder" according to one of the workers I asked.
