Today's weather was perfect for riding. in the low 70's, winds from the North West. I wore the standard kit. My legs felt average going out the door. I did moderate tempo to Route 202. When I reached Highline, I put it into good tempo when the road steepened. I put in my mind that this is what I needed to get fully warmed up and that's exactly what happened. I cruised it to WS in moderate tempo. Mostly in the saddle. I was saving some matches for the return trip to Banducci. At the turn-around point, I started modest for about 1 miles, then pushed into moderate tempo. Out of the saddle when needed. After reaching the summit, I took a breather, hydrated, etc. Immediately after, I climbed the Banducci wall. I felt good. I was able to hold a solid tempo over the top. I recovered on the false flat but kept my momentum going. The remainder was no less than moderate tempo. Out of the saddle to keep the legs and body fresh. Once at the summit, I stopped to let the traffic go by and to take a breather. I practiced my tuck and reached 40MPH+. Once at the base, there was the road construction that has been going on for the past 7 days or so. They are now laying down the pavement. I'm eager to be able to ride in my own lane for once (on this stretch of road). I held moderate tempo going out to SS. I put in a good push over the top. As I was going downhill, I stopped to take a photo of a red tail hawk that had just caught its prey. immediately after, I made my way into town. Practicing my tuck along the way. The trek through town was the usual good tempo, keeping the momentum going. After exiting SS, I put it into moderate tempo all the way to Pelliser, all the while negotiating traffic (from behind). At this point I was able to increase the tempo as I had a cross-tail wind. Upon reaching the last climb of the day, I put it into good tempo mode. Slowing down here and there to stay within my limits. I put in a good push over the top. The false flat was a well deserved recovery zone. Going onto Route 202, I had to negotiate traffic. I let as much traffic by, and then merged, putting in a short sprint up to 36MPH+. The remainder was mostly cruise control. Steady, over Mariposa. Concentration was good today. There were some shaky moments of gremlins and such, but no escalation. Ailments were probably the greater of things. Almost no ailments, despite the fact that my right knee has been mildly sore, off the bike. I had some mild left upper quad soreness, that never escalated, but was noticeable. Balance and form was something I was consciously working on today. I was trying to see how to mitigate the lack of (exact) symmetry between my left and right leg. My right being more square than the left. (Work in progress). Gear is working well. The Gopro worked better this time. No outages with the extended battery attached. I used Velcro to keep it steady and it worked like a charm. Other notes, I saw Bob and another cyclist today. Surprised that I didn't see others.
