Today's weather was excellent. In the mid 70's, cool winds from the North West, partly cloudy. I wore the standard kit. My legs were heavy going out the door. I knew that it would take a while for them to get warmed up. I reached the end of OTR in average time and my legs felt better at that point. I approached the Banducci wall with moderate tempo, then picked it up a bit while out of the saddle for that last 1/3rd of the climb. I was able to recover on the false flat and my legs continued to feel better. I was able to do good tempo for the majority of the remaining climb. After resting for 30 seconds, I commenced the downhill. Mostly fun and games. I made my way through the farm-lands and the miles were ticking away fast at this point. When I arrived at the CVR climb, I decided to hold no less than moderate tempo, bumping to good here and there. And, a modest push over the summit. The false flat was another recovery zone. From Route 202 and OTR, it was a welcome relief. I knew I had the most difficult part ahead. My body continued to feel responsive at this point. After making it back to WTR, I headed to Keene. I kept the tempo modest to the top of the descent. The descent, itself, was mostly soft pedaling to the base. After reaching the base, I swapped bottles and commenced the climb. My legs felt good, it didn't take much time for me to re-warm up from the descent. I knew where to put my cookies in and that's what I did. I put in a dig over the loop monument. From that point, I put in my mind to get the tempo in lock-down. No accelerations, just a nice steady tempo. I needed to keep my legs as fresh as possible for the last half of the climb. By the time I reached the summit, my quads were starting to feel sore, but that's no stranger to this route. The remainder was fun and games to Weston, and then the short punch home. Concentration was spot on. Some lapses going down Banducci. A bit of gremlins lurking in the shadows, but it never escalated. Ailments were next to none. The new shorts feel great! No chaffing. My legs were sore after the Keene climb, but that's nothing new. Balance and form felt good, but probably the lesser of things. My right leg just didn't feel like it was square on the pedals. Gear is working well. I used the Brunton battery for the GoPro. Still getting used to it. It has a power switch and it needs to be activated while the camera is on. The camera turned off in the middle of the ride, and I noticed it when I reached the Keene descent. Other notes, no other cyclists today.
