The weather was a bit on the warm side, but comfortable. I'd say, upper 70's / low 80's. Cool winds from the North West. I wore the standard kit and my new shorts. I felt average going out the door. I knew I had a long day ahead, so I cruised for the first few miles. OTR was mostly moderate, but I had to push it over the kickers. After reaching Route 202, I stopped to check the Gopro then commenced Highline. I did moderate to good tempo to the summit. Then, put it into cruise control, moderate tempo to WS. The winds weren't super strong, but enough to merit slow tempo at first. After about 1 or 2 miles, I increased it to moderate. I was saving my matches for the latter half of the ride. The Banducci wall was mostly good tempo. putting it into the 32T where needed and out of the saddle for a good chunk. The false flat was a perfect reprieve. The remainder of the climb started with moderate and increased near good tempo. I took a 30 second break at the summit, let the traffic by and hit the downhill. Doing my tuck, I reached about 41MPH. Fun stuff! There's still road construction near the base, but no stoppages in traffic. I held moderate tempo for the majority of the trip to SS. Once there, I stopped to take some photos of what appeared to be a controlled fire. There were helicopters and fire trucks parked into a field. I kept the tempo moderate over the summit, no digs. The downhill proved another spot for tuck practice, reaching 40MPH. I did the usual push through town and then headed back. I did moderate tempo and then picked up the pace as I reached Pelliser. By this time, I realized that my body was responding well. No serious ailments. I was able to put it just above moderate tempo all the way to the last climb. I did no less than moderate tempo up the last climb, with a modest push over the summit. The false flat was another welcome reprieve. When I reached Route 202, I let the traffic by and commenced the 1/4 mile straight. The wind was just right and I reached 37MPH by sprinting in the saddle. OTR was fun and games. I did a modest push over Mariposa and headed home. Concentration was good, but with some areas of lapses. I was able to talk myself down, and regain focus when I felt my mind drifting. There were some hints of gremlins, but nothing I wasn't able to mitigate. Ailments were probably the greater of things. My body felt real good today. No lower back pains, very soreness in the right knee (almost not worth mentioning), no quad pains, no calf pains. This is a real good sign. Balance and form felt good. Not great, though. a bit displaced in the right leg. Gear is working well. The new shorts fit perfect. I like the Chamois. The shorts extend further than the previous pair, but not so much. I also like the grippers at the end. Other notes, I was able to smell the smoke while making my way west on Highline. The smoke came from the mountains neighboring SS. Nothing out of control, inf act, possibly a controlled fire by the local fire department. I saw one cyclist as I was making my way back on Mariposa.
