Today's weather was cooler than the previous ride. Low to mid 80's and a cool breaze from the North West. I wore the standard kit. I felt average going out the door. I made it to the end of OTR in average time. I had no intentions of posting a good time today. I just wanted to get in a good ride with the heat taken into consideration. I climbed the Banducci wall in moderate and increasing pace to the top. I was able to recover in the false flat and then do more of the same for the remainder of the climb. I took a 30 second break at the summit and then commenced the downhill. I practiced my tuck and reached speeds in excess of 40 MPH. I was hoping the city was finished paving the bike path at the base of Banducci, but it was not to be the case. Probably another week or two at best. I cruised it to SS, putting it into moderate tempo. All the while, negotiating traffic. I did a modest push over the summit. The downhill was another practice zone for my tuck position. I then put it into good tempo through SS. Exiting fairly quick. The return on Banducci was moderate. From Pelliser to the last climb, I did no less than moderate tempo. I reached Boss Hogs in about 1:23. Again, not wanting to put in a good time, so this was no matter to me. The last climb started with moderate and quickly escalated to good tempo, with a generous push over the summit. The false flat proved to be the usual recovery and stretching zone. Back on Route 202 was traffic negotiation to OTR. From there it was fun and games to Mariposa. I kept the tempo modest going over Mariposa as I had decided to add WTR summit to the ride. The last leg going up WTR started modest, but with the wind conditions, it was difficult to stay less than moderate as I had to push into the wind for the duration of the climb. About half way up the climb, my left hip started to hurt. This seems to be a recurring theme in my previous rides. Will have to keep that in mind. Once I reached the summit, I spared no time, and headed back home. Mostly soft pedaling. Concentration was excellent. No gremlins to make note of. I was in the zone with and without music playing. Ailments consisted of left hip soreness toward the last few miles of the ride. I'm not sure if it's the saddle position, perhaps the lack of resting between efforts? Balance and form felt good. I was having to coach myself into favoring positions of slight difference to get that feeling of being square on the pedals on both legs. Gear is working well. No issues there. Other notes, no other cyclists today.
