Few rides in the eastern U.S. offer climbs and descents of this length, coupled with vistas comparable to Colorado and the western states. The entire Foothills Parkway is a treat, but the new section is a rare gem that will undoubtedly be ranked as one of your top all-time favorite rides. The views of the Smoky Mountains are that good, and the descents are that fun! It’s a tough ride (even when shortened) with a huge payoff for the effort. We can’t recommend this ride enough. (less)

Few rides in the eastern U.S. offer climbs and descents of this length, coupled with vistas comparable to Colorado and the western states. The entire Foothills Parkway is a treat, but the new section is a rare gem that will undoubtedly be ranked as one of your top all-time favorite rides. A 250 mile Bikepacking loop that starts and ends in Truckee CA. The route combines The Tahoe, Sierra and Plumas National Forests and travels to the Northernmost edge of Sierra Nevada and back to the famous town of Truckee just north of Lake Tahoe.

For the optimal experience, the route is best broken up into 5 days at about 60 miles and 6000k of vert per day and can be done on a larger tire gravel bike or hardtail mountain bike.

The best time of year is mid summer to late fall, due to snowpack. Check the weather window, it gets hot in places and can be freezing at night.

The route is rugged, remote, challenging and awe inspiring but very doable logistically with plenty of camping, resupplies and water along the route.

The route was inspired by the Connected Communities Project. The Connected Communities Project aims to stimulate the economies of rural communities in the Lost Sierra by improving trail access and connectivity and encouraging diverse user types to explore and recreate on public lands by linking 15 mountain towns by trails. A 250 mile Bikepacking loop that starts and ends in Truckee CA. The route combines The Tahoe, Sierra and Plumas National Forests and travels to the Northernmost edge of Sierra Nevada and back to the famous town of Truckee just north of Lake Tahoe.

This 2-day trip from the Lake Ontario waterfront to Georgetown and Etobicoke Creek is filled with beautiful views of Lake Ontario and peaceful roads and trails with an optional spur to Acton with its historic downtown and nearby Fairy Lake. The route primarily follows paved roads and both paved and unpaved trails. You'll overnight in Georgetown before following both the Caledon Trailway and the Etobicoke Creek valley on a mostly off-road forested corridor, cutting back to Lake Ontario where you'll rejoin the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail at the mouth of Etobicoke Creek. From there it's more waterfront views and pathways before ending your ride back in Mississauga.

This is one of 9 cycling itineraries showcasing Ontario’s best trails and two signature cycling routes–the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail and The Greenbelt Route. Celebrate the Lake Ontario watershed and cycling while supporting rural communities and local businesses.
