Today was a day for exploration. I haven't been down the local canyon in at least 6 months. The weather was nice and cool. In the upper 60's. Winds from the north west. At first, I didn't know where to start, so I went up Monroe and down into the canyon. I started by heading West, as far as the trail would go. I ended up getting into a single track trail that was only hikeable. I went as far as I could. I think the trail went on, I don't remember exactly. I headed back down the single track trail and onto the other side of the primary trail. It was parallel to the train. Just as I remembered it. It goes up for a mile or so. At the end there was a u-turn that headed back to the original trail. The other way was to follow the train tracks, but it appeared to have golf ball sized rocks. I decided not to go that way. I'm guessing that's how to get to Meadow Brook Park. I decided to head back. It was mostly single tracks all the way back. A lot of it was dangerous as there were drop-offs. One mistake and you'll end up in the ravine. I found a trail that headed into the golf park. I followed it all the way to Westwood. Then I headed back. The last part of the ride was going up the paved road that leads to the dirt trail. That was the most difficult part of the ride. I was well within my limits for the duration of the ride. Gear is working well, although, I lost my tail light. Fortunately, I have a spare. The front tire didn't perform well. It was sliding all over the place. I'll likely return it and get one of the same as my rear tire. Other notes, I saw 2 mountain bikers and some hikers.
