I got up early and got out the door before 8AM. The first thing I noticed was the wind. It picked up and was going the wrong direction. I decided to proceed as planned. The legs felt ok to start. I think they got marginally better as the ride progressed. I brought two extra bottles and stashed them in the mail locker. I headed up OTR all the while keeping in mind the miles I would be putting in. I made it to the end of OTR in good average time. I headed up Banducci. The Banducci wall had minimal traffic mitigation. When I arrived at the Arosa climb, I was going into a headwind. I was hoping that it would turn in my favor by the time I reached the summit of Banducci. The climb went pretty quick. I was having to put on the patience cap. I was near max over the top, but had something left in the tank. No heroics. The backside was fun. I reached 44 MPH on on of the dips. After making it to the summit of Banducci, I noticed the wind was not in my favor. So, I made a choice at that time to skip SS and cut across the farmlands instead. I think I made the right choice. I didn't want to burry myself. The downhill was a bit dangerous. I was riding the brakes most of the way down. I almost had to put my foot down on a few occasions. I made my way through the farmlands. The wind was turbulent. I had a tail cross at best. Most of the time it was cross. I made a pit stop for a bio break in the middle of the farmlands. The last climb went as I anticipated. Some wind conditions but sheltered by the mountainsides. After reaching the summit, I pulled over and took a few moments to feed a Clif Bar. Shortly after, I got back on the road. route 202 had traffic mitigation. No fun, but I made it in once piece. The descent off OTR was a welcome relief. It gave me time to stretch out the legs. I made my way back to the mail box and swapped out the bottles when I got there. From there, I headed up WTR and onto the descent down to Keene. I made one more bio pitstop before reaching the base. After reaching the base, I headed back with no stopping. The legs felt pretty good, all things considered. I was focusing on the landmarks and that helped the miles go quick. I was feeling the fatigue in the legs after about half way up the climb. No cramping. It was mitigated by stretching and getting in and out of the saddle frequently. Before I knew it, I made it to the summit. I took a few moments to recover and then headed back to the mail locker to pickup what I left in there. Shortly after, I made my way back, shutting it down at the top of Weston. Concentration was good, all things considered. The morale wasn't too good, given the abysmal wind conditions. No gremlins today. Ailments, some hand numbness during out of the saddle digs. Mitigated by alternating positions on the hoods and shaking them while in the saddle. Nutrition was good. I was a bit hungry in after about an hour into the ride. I was thinking, perhaps I should have had something in addition to just oatmeal for breakfast. On the plus side, no GI soreness. I fed just one Clif Bar and I consumed almost all of my water and Gatorade without having to ration. Gear worked flawless. Balance and form was good. Other notes, I saw 2 or 3 cyclists, most descending as I was returning from Keene. There were visitors at the new campsite about a mile into the the Keene descent.
