Today was nice and cool with clear skies. I only had to wear 1 base layer, and that suited me fine for the entire ride. My legs felt fresh from the get-go. The wind was from the North-West, but proved to be a bit chaotic out on the course. I thought I was going to have a generous tailwind on the way back, but it was more turbulent than anything. I probably lost a minute or two just from the wind conditions. I did moderate tempo to the end of OTR. My legs felt good at that point. I was able to do moderate to good tempo to the summit of Banducci. I reached the top of Banducci in good time, but I lost a good chunk of it on the way out through the farmlands. I was pushing no less than moderate tempo, just trying to keep my momentum going. I pushed hard over the summit of SS and continued with moderate tempo until I reached the flatter parts, and then raised the tempo. I made it to the Tunnel in under 1 hour. And about 1:04 to the exit. On my way towards SS I was doing between 15 and 18mph, into the wind. I thought I was going to average about 20-23 mph on the way out, but it turned out to be more like 18-20mph. The wind was very deceiving. I tried to to keep my tempo high, but still reserving some for the last climb. I made it to Boss Hogs in under 1:20 hrs. I was going good to high tempo on the last climb, getting out of the saddle to keep my momentum going. The remainder of the ride was mostly cruise-control while enjoying the last downhill sections on OTR. Ailments were minimum. My lower back was sore at times and I had to stretch to keep it in check. My balance was good today. I felt square on the pedals and able to stay on top of them. Concentration was great. I had it dialed in for most of the ride. Gear is working well. I reseated the front and rear wheels. The creaking noises were less. Somewhere on the last half of the ride, I noticed that the gopro camera was not rolling. I think I may have forgotten to hit the start button. When I noticed it, I powered up the unit and started recording. It was recording when I reached the home. Other notes, I only saw 2 other cyclists today. A lady on her mountain bike going the opposite way while I was making my way to SS. And another guy who was going the other way while I just passed Boss Hogs. I was expecting more on a beautiful day like this!
