Amazing how the weather changes so quickly here. It was in the mid to upper 50's today. I ended up wearing 1 base layer, arms and knees. I removed my knee warmers when I reached the end of OTR, and arms at the start of the final climb. Out the door, my legs felt pretty fresh. I did good time going up Banducci. The winds were from the North -West, so I had a headwind on the way out to SS. I kept a nice moderate tempo and lifted the tempo on a few occasions. I had no ailments today with the exception of my knee in the first 5-10 minutes of the ride. I felt a sharp pain on the knee-cap. But it went away in about a minute or two and never came back. After I crossed the farmlands and made it to the SS summit, I felt a bit more fatigued than usual. Perhaps it was partically due to having just a bit too much clothing on, causing my body to heat up and sweat more than it should have. Nevertheless, I did good tempo for the remainder of the ride. I reached the SS tunnel in about 1 hour, and Boss Hogs in just under 1:20 hours. By the time I reached CVR, I figured I put in an average ride because I felt ok, and not a whole lot better than that. The metrics proved otherwise. When I feel this way, I typically do a 1:52ish ride. Today, I did a sub 1:50 hour ride. Somewhat contradictory. I did stop on a few occasions, but just enough to do what I needed to, ie take my arm and leg warmers off. My concentration was spot on, and balance was pretty good too. Bike and gear is working great.
