I think today's weather was just right. It was in the upper 70's with winds from the North West. I wore the standard kit. Today's ride was strange with respect to the mind and body. I immediately knew my mind wasn't going to cooperate 100% from the start. I had a brain fart just as I was leaving and so, I knew I was going to need to be active in my mind to keep things in focus. Needless to day, I felt good from the start of the ride. My body was responding very well. I'm guessing that it was the change in weather that made the difference. I made it to the end of OTR in good time, about 20 minutes and change. On Highline, I was able to hammer up the 1 mile climb. The trip to WS was mostly moderate. The return trip started modest and kept the tempo between moderate and good. I was able to push it over the summit. At this point, I figured I burnt about 2 matches on Highline. My next focus was to make it to the summit of WTR. After making it back to OTR, the descent was mostly fun and games. Once I made it to WTR, I made my way to the summit. I was keeping moderate tempo for most of the uphill. I refilled my bottle with my 3rd (mounted on my fork). Immediate after, I then commenced the descent. The descent was mostly soft pedaling, keeping my momentum going. Upon reaching the base, I turned around and started the climb. My legs felt good at this point and I knew I was going to have a good ascension. I saved my matches for the steeper sections and used the remaining for the latter half of the climb. My legs were responding well and I noticed that my heart rate was about 10 beats higher than normal. I was able to make it to the summit with a generous push over the top. Concentration was the lesser today. I just couldn't keep it in lock down. Although, I did feel better on the last half of the ride. Ailments were minimal. Some left leg hamstring soreness, minor left hip pains in the last mile or two on the Keene climb. Some lower back soreness. I was able to mitigate all the ailments. They never escalated and did not merit a significant lessening of the pace. Balance and form felt real good. I was on top of the pedals for the greater part of the ride. Gear is working well. No issues to report. I've decided I'm going to use my power brick to supplement the gopro camera on the GrandFondo. It's easier to use and will give me enough record time for the entire ride. (over 7 and 1/2 hours).
