Today's weather was hot. I got up around 7:20AM to eat breakfast. I was debating what I should do after-wards, take a 1 hour-ish nap, or go out ASAP. I chose the former. I wore the standard kit. My legs felt average going out the door. I made it to Route 202 in average time and was sufficiently warmed up by then to take on Banducci. I climbed the wall in good to high tempo. My body was feeling responsive. I recovered on the false flat and did no less than moderate tempo to the summit. Once at the summit, I took a 30 second break, then headed back. It was fun and games all the way back to WTR. Making my way up to the summit, I did mostly moderate to good tempo. When I reached the top of the descent, I swapped out my 3rd bottle. I cruised it to the base. Soft-pedaling to keep the legs warmed up. Once at the base, I spent no time and commenced the climb. My legs felt good at this point. After about 1 mile, I continued to feel good, but the heat exhaustion was starting to set in. I saved my matches for the steeper sections. No digs over the loop monument. From there I was alternating between moderate to good tempo. All the while mitigating the heat by opening my jersey . I kept my momentum over the summit, with a modest dig. From there, it was smooth sailing back to home. Concentration was the lesser of things. I was in and out. I think I was too cocky going out the door. Maybe set my mind on the wrong foot? Some mild gremlins on Keene, but never escalated. Ailments were next to none. I still have a sore neck that prevents me from being able to look behind without significant pain. No hand numbness, calf, quad, hip. Some mild lower back soreness that never escalated. Balance and form was good. Probably the greater of things. Gear is working well. I used the Brunton battery. It worked flawless. I think I'll use that in the GranFondo. It will require that I swap batteries at the rest stop just before heading down to Keene and back to the start/finish. Other notes, I saw 3 other cyclists. There was a backup for a few miles on the 58.
