Well good stuff and bad stuff. The good... The weather is perfect for riding. A bit of overcast, in the mid 60's. Winds from the North West. The bad... I missed out on an organized cycling event. No clue why I didn't get the announcement, but it appeared to be a metric century equivalent. Also, there's a small steerer stop on my bike that broke. It's going to be serviced on Wednesday under a warranty repair. It didn't affect today's ride in the slightest. The legs felt pretty good to start. I noticed I missed an organized cycling event as I was climbing up OTR. Over a dozen riders were on their way down. I could tell that they were experienced. I also saw pink markers on the ground. So, that's when I realized that something was going on. So, I put in my mind to just stick with the plan. And, that's what I did. I followed my route that I planned. I was playing it a bit conservative given that my bike needed to have a minor servicing. I didn't want to make the situation worse. Nothing bad happened. The bike road beautifully. The ride went as planned. I felt good, the bike felt good. The morale was sufficient given the fact that I was a bit upset that I was not informed about the cycling event. I stopped at the SS park for a quick bio. I didn't bother checking the time at the tunnel. I'm guessing it was around 1:03-ish. I zipped through town and headed back on the farmlands. I forgot to check the time at Boss Hogs. I guess I was just a bit preoccupied. The last climb felt good. The legs not as fatigued as it sometimes is on this ride. I stopped at the summit to swap out the GoPro battery and then got back on the road. Route 202 had minimal traffic mitigation. The OTR descent was a treat. I pushed over Mariposa, Weston, and then shut it down. Concentration was good. I was disappointed, but in the end glad that I got this ride under the belt with no altercations. Balance and form was good. Gear worked flawless. Ailments were minimal. Nutrition was good. I brought a third bottle and didn't even finish the first Gatorade. I drank 2/3rds of my Gatorade and some water. No hunger signs. Ailments were minimal. Other notes, I'll try not to kick myself in the pants for missing the cycling event!
Other notes: I discovered what the cycling event was. It as a ride put together from the Kern Wheelmen. It was a club-like ride. No entrance fee, minimal support. They had two events. A 50 mile ride and a 65-70ish mile ride. The 50 miler would have been perfect. What can you do? I'll keep their calendar handy for the future events.
