The weather has finally let up! Supposed to be in the 50's for the next week, or so. I wasn't sure where I wanted to go. I was juggling between Keene and SS. If I went to SS, I was going to to the shorter route. I decided to go to Keene. Winds from the North West. Temperature was just below 50. I wore the standard winter kit with my jacket. I headed out the door and made my way to the top of the descent. I wasn't sure what the legs were going to feel like. I could tell from the get-go, that they were going to feel good. And it did. I felt light on the bike, I love that feeling. As I was making my way to the summit, another cyclist bridged. I've no idea where he came from, as I was constantly looking back for traffic. We introduced each other, his name was Kip. Nevertheless, we rode together till we reached the summit, he headed back and I went to Keene. I cruised the downhill. Soft pedalling most of the way. I made it to the base in good average time. As I was descending, I saw same calves on the wrong side of the fence, I kept my distance, but one got afraid, panicked and jumped through the barbed wire fence. Took me by surprise. They have tough hides, so probably went through unscathed. When I reached the base, I spared no time and turned around, heading back uphill. I was wondering if I would need to remove some clothing for the return trip. I ended up unzipping my jacket and jersey half way. That gave enough ventilation to keep cool. The legs felt good. I was able to find a good tempo to last the entire climb. Doing the usual landmark count-down. It went quick and the cool air felt so good! Concentration was good. Balance and form was good. Ailments, none. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, I saw another cyclist on his way up as I was just starting the descent. Looked to be a bike packer.
