I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do today. Either WS or indoors. I decided WS. The weather is cloudy. In the low 50's, winds from the north west. I decided to wear the usual winter kit, less the jacket and toe warmers. When I got out the door and down the driveway, I noticed the air was a bit cooler than I anticipated. I ended up going back and grabbing my skull cap. I wore it for the entire ride, and i think it was the right decision. Especially on the return trip, into the wind. The legs felt average to start. I was sufficiently warmed up by the time I reached the end of OTR. I made it there in average time. No heroics today. I kept a good tempo on the Highline climb. From there it was mostly moderate tempo to WS. It was mostly enjoyable with the tailwind. As anticipated, there was tons of salt on the bike lane. Fortunately, it never got dangerous. I just had to keep my eye on traffic when merging into the car lane. After reaching WS, I spared no time and headed back. I knew it was going to put me into the uncomfortable zone, so I kept that in mind, and to keep the tempo within my limits. It was a test of my patience more than anything. A hint of gremlins out there, didn't make things better. The reason I like this route the least. After reaching Tucker, I put in my mind that I had just 5 minutes of hard effort left. My calculation was near perfect. The morale went up when I reached the summit. From there, I headed down to OTR. As I was descending OTR, the camera gave out. I decided to pull over and swap out the battery. When I got off my bike to take a look, I noticed my saddle bag was open. Before I started the ride, I noticed the installed battery was depleted. I had to go upstairs to grab a charged battery. In the haste of the moment, I forgot to close my saddle bag. When I noticed, I thought I lost a battery from the bag being open. Disgruntled, I closed the bag and made my way back home. On the way, I realized that I didn't lose anything. I was surprised that nothing fell out of the bag. At least nothing of value, like a quick stick, inner-tube, etc. So, it was a best case scenario mishap. Otherwise, from that point, it was mostly fun and games to home. Concentration was good. Yes, a hint of gremlins out there, but I ddn't let that deter my progress. Balance and form felt good. Ailments, none. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, I saw two cyclists today, including Bob. I saw Bob as I was heading out to WS. He didn't wave. I didn't take offense, as I realized he was going into a headwind. Sort of takes away the positive morale, hence the lack of friendly gestures. The bike has grit on it from the run off water and sand. Will have to give it a bath tomorrow.
