I was planning on doing the Alp du Zwift route today, on the trainer. When I got up, I noticed that it wasn't raining as was predicted. After breakfast and a nap, I got up and it was partially cloudy. I decided to go to SS instead. I wore the full winter kit. With face mask in the back pocket of my jacket. The legs felt like they needed to get warmed up. I made my way to OTR. I took it easy. Making it in average time to the summit. The legs were feeling better at this time, and I had no sense of urgency. I made my way up Banducci. I paced myself well. Never red-lining it. At the summit, I took a few moments rest. Let the traffic by and headed downhill. There was traffic behind, but I could tell they were giving me space. So, I was able to tuck my way down to the base. I prepared myself, mentally, for the trip to SS. I had a headwind, but it wasn't significant. I was averaging about 15 MPH and was well within my limits. I made my way around the back entrance. Putting in a fast cadence dig over the top. The descent was fun. Practicing the tuck and reaching close to 40 MPH. I made it to the tunnel in about 1:05ish. I knew I was on slow pace, so no worries. I flew through the town and headed back. At about this point, I was having nature break signs. I was at the exit of SS and was looking for a porta-potty. There was one, but it was closed. So, I headed back. Keeping my eyes peeled. So, my morale took a slight detour. From comfortable, to slightly urgent. I kept in mind that I could take a nature break somewhere on the last climb. So, I put that in my mind and made my way through the farm-lands. It went fairly quick. I was way off pace. Perhaps over 5 minutes. Nothing too disconcerting. Still, no porta-potties around, so my plan was to bio on the last climb. I made my way up the last climb for less than a mile and I found a nice place to make a pit stop. Shortly after, hopped back on the bike and completed the climb. No heroics. After making the summit, I pulled over toe swap out the camera battery. And, just as quick, got back on the road. As I was riding through the false flat, there was a dog that was chasing me on the other side of the fence. I couldn't tell if it was friendly. I encouraged him to follow. Eventually he found a place to squeeze through the fence. I pulled over and he greeted me. Definitely a friendly dog. I got my smartphone out of my pocket to take a few photos. Such a nice dog. From there it was to Route 202 traffic mitigation and fun and games through OTR. The remainder was just getting home. Concentration was good today. Few lapses. Balance and form felt good. Ailments, next to none. Gear worked flawless. Other notes, I saw two cyclists today. Looked to be my equal or better. There was also a runner in SS.
